Seven injured in IED explosion in Sultan Kudarat


Security forces cordon the blast site where an improvised explosive device went off in a parking area outside the public market of Isulan Kudarat on Saturday, September 7 which injured at least seven people.

ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT- Police authorities have tagged Islamic militants as possible suspects in the bomb a attack here on Saturday which injured at least seven people.

PMajor Ronnie Dardo, spokesperson of the Sultan Kudarat police provincial office, said investigators are eyeing the involvement of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, a local ISIS-inspired terror group, in the bomb explosion on a parking area outside the public market here past 7 .am. Saturday.

At least seven people were injured after an improvised explosive device tied in motorcycle parked in the area went off.
The injured were identified as Jarren Amigo 24, Jay Carnaso, 30; Nassem Gulano, 24; Gerald Cartagena, 28; NiƱo Virgo, 28; Jomar Aquino, 30 and Terencio Cagadas, 35, a local traffic enforcer.

Dardo said additional policemen and soldiers were deployed around the strategic areas of the town to intensify checkpoints and security patrol.
He said investigators eyeing extortion as possible motive of the attack as local businessmen had previously received extortion demand supposedly coming from the BIFF.

Authorities tagged BIFF militants in the previous bomb attacks in this capital town in September last year that killed five people and wounded 50 others.
