GENERAL SANTOS CITY- Local authorities have ordered the dispersal on Thursday of an event organized by the Department of Labor and Employment in violation to the prohibition of holding mass gathering amid the implementation of pre-empted lockdown in the entire city.
City Mayor Ronnel Rivera ordered the dispersal of some 200 people who turned up to the meeting for the beneficiaries of TUPAD (Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Displaced workers) held at city oval gymnasium.
He said the mass gathering organized by the DOLE provincial office was a clear violation of the existing executive order which prohibits the holding of mass gatherings in the city as a preventive measure against the spread of Corona Virus disease-2019.
The mayor has informed the Department of Interior and Local Government that such activity initiated by DOLE did not pass through proper channel for coordination with the local government and the Inter-Agency task Force on Emerging Disease.
“Had the task force and local government been informed about the meeting, I will advise the organizers to cancel the activity,” Rivera said.
Rivera had also issued memorandum to Nur Juanday, head of the city hall’s Public Employment Services Office, who helped organize the event and allowed the use of the city gymnasium as venue.
Rivera lamented that despite the city government’s efforts with the help of other government agencies to protect the city from possible infection of COVID,-19 there are some public officials who tend to violate the existing policies.
“This event could have had dangerous repercussions had any of the attendees been positive for COVID-19.” Rivera said
