Alabel local gov’t employee faces ax for drug use

ALABEL, Sarangani — A municipal government employee here is facing summary dismissal proceedings after he tested positive for illegal drug use.

Mayor Vic Paul Salara said the erring contractual employee was found positive for using methamphetamine or shabu during a random drug test conducted by the municipal health office  on some 600 local government officials and employees last July 12.

He said that the employee was employed as a contractual personnel of the local government  about two years ago.

Salara ordered the erring employee to undergo a six-month drug rehabilitation program at the government’s rehabilitation center.

Salarda requested the drug test for municipal officials and employees to ensure a drug-free workforce of the local government.

The mayor expressed dismay over the involvement of the municipal government employee in illegal drug use which negated the declaration of the municipality as a drug-free town.
