Authorities exhumed the body of a New People's Army surrenderee who was executed by his former comrades last November 2014 in Davao Oriental.
Elements of 28th Infantry Battalion and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) retrieved the body of Celso Villarin from a shallow grave in Barangay Maratagas, Lupon, Davao Oriental.
1Lt Vergel Lacambra, 10th Infantry Division spokesman, said Villarin, a former member of the NPA Front Committee 18, surrendered to the military in 2012.
Lacambra said Villarin has been living a peaceful following his surrender after he was given livelihood assistance under the government's Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP).
On November 20, 2014, Villarin was abducted by his former NPA comrades at their residence in Barangay San Isidro in Lupon town.
The victim's mother Elena was able to identify the abductors as Sergio Catampao alias Baytol, Danilo Cila alias Pakat, Ryan Pitao alias Edoy and two others identified only as Jemai and Tomas.
An NPA sympathizer who witnessed the victim's execution reported the incident to military authorities recently.
The victim's family positively identified the remains after it was exhumed by SOCO personnel.
Lupon Mayor Domingo Lim assured the family to provide decent burial to the victim.
He said criminal charges will be filed against the perpetrators who executed the victim.
