Tagum City – Key leaders of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Mindanao have expressed concern over the influx of political turncoats, who have joined the administration party for the sake of political expediency.

Cesar Cuntapay, PDP-Laban-Mindanao Area Council president, said key leaders of PDP-Laban in Mindanao have urged PDP-Laban National President Senate and President Aquilino Pimentel III to scrutinize the application of membership of politicians, who come from other political parties and only seeking political convenience in their desire to join the President’s party.

PDP-Laban regional presidents in Mindanao held a meeting here over the weekend in a bid to strengthen the party amid the massive influx of local politicians with reportedly only vested interests in mind.

He said these new politicians who took their oath as new members of the PDP-Laban did not undergo the required basic membership seminar.

He disclosed that applicants were supposed to undergo a basic membership seminar before they can be admitted to PDP-Laban. In that seminar, they are given lectures on the principles and advocacies of the party which are anchored on humanism, participatory democracy and federalism.

Cuntapay, who is also concurrent regional president of Davao region, assailed Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez of trampling on the constitution-and-by laws of PDP-Laban for going on a recruitment binge and accepting hundreds of local officials into the party without them undergoing the required membership seminar.
