Assorted high-powered loose firearms turned over to security forces in North Cotabato



MIDSAYAP, COTABATO- Village officials here yielded at least 18 assorted loose firearms, including high-powered automatic rifles, to police and military authorities  on Tuesday, June 22.

BGen. Roberto Capulong, 602nd Army Brigade commander, said the surrender of the loose and unlicensed firearms was facilitated by village officials from the ten barangays of the municipality.

The surrendered firearms include 5.56 Bushmaster rifle, .50mm cal. rifle, 40mm grenade launcher, M79 grenade launcher, M-14 rifle, 7.62 cal. Sniper rifle, Garand rifle, 12 gauge shotgun, .45 caliber pistol and .38 cal. revolver.

Vice-Mayor Manuel Rabara and Association of Barangay Captains chair Allan Nostrales graced the surrender rite for the firearms held at the Sanguniang Bayan hall of Midsayap.

Major Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division commander, lauded the local and barangay officials of Midyasap town for their cooperation and support to the campaign launched by the security sector against unlicensed and loose firearms in Central Mindanao region. 

He said the campaign against loose firearms was aimed at curbing atrocities and criminality by local terror and lawless armed groups. 

He said local and village officials of Kabacan, North Cotabato also turned over at least seven unlicensed high-powered firearms surrendered by local residents of the municipality.
