Father, son killed in shootout; P1.3-M shabu seized in NoCot

COTABATO CITY – A father and his son were killed in a shootout with law enforcers after both resisted arrest while being served with a search warrant in Pikit, North Cotabato Thursday morning.

Naravy Duquiatan, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Region 12 (Soccsksargen), identified the suspects as Datu Ronnie Mangansakan, and his son Banji, both of Barangay Macasandag.

“They started firing at the approaching lawmen, resulting in the shootout," Duquiatan said of the 6 a.m. operation.

Assisting the PDEA-12 were personnel from the North Cotabato provincial police and soldiers from the Army’s 34th and 90th Infantry Battalions.

Recovered from the slain suspects were shabu worth PHP1.3 million, an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, and ammunition.

“Both father and son were included in our high-value target list in North Cotabato," Duquiatan said.

Nabbed in the same operation were Gutierrez Abit and Nissan Mangansakan who were both found in the area during the exchange of gunfire, and believed to be the slain suspects' cohorts in their illegal activities. (PNA)
