COTABATO CITY- Marine soldiers captured five suspected New People’s Army rebels including two amazons following a brief gunfight in Buldon, Maguindanao over the weekend.
Brig. Gen. Jonas Lumawag, commander of 1st Marine Brigade, said troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team-5 and 3rd Marine Company Force Reconnaisance Group captured the NPA rebels during a hot pursuit operation following an armed clash in Barangay Karim, Buldon.
He said two Marines were wounded during the firefight that prompted the NPA to withdraw toward Barangay Dimagalen.
He said a civilian resident was killed while another one was wounded after the NPA rebels indiscriminately fired at a group of farmers near the encounter site.
The arrested suspects were identified as as Omar Dimalapang Magarang alias Ka Anghel, political guide; Vedencio E Obsid alias “Ka Heron” squad leader of Guerilla Front-4B; Ginalo Gargar Iladan alias ‘Ka Gengen’ , medic; Erlinda Gablas Manseguiao alias ‘Ka Angga’, medic and supply officer; and Elino Pangasian alias ‘Ka Iko’.
The arrested suspects yielded two .45 caliber pistols, ammunition, assorted medicines and NPA paraphernalia.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force Central commander, said military authorities were tipped off by local residents on the presence of the NPA rebels who were about to establish their guerilla base within the boundary of Parang and Alamada, North Cotabato.
Local officials of Buldon had earlier declared the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the NPA, as persona-non-grate following the government’s all-out campaign to end the local communist insurgency.
