OZAMIS CITY- A New People’s Army rebel was killed while seven others were captured during an encounter with security forces in Barangay Bagacay, here early morning last Sunday.
Major Gen. Roberto ancan, First Infantry Division commander , said Army troops and policemen encountered the NPA rebels who had holed up in the area .
He said the security forces responded to the report coming from local villagers on the presence of the NPA rebels in the area.
He said the NPA rebels tried to escape but were blocked by pursuing government forces in nearby Barangay Cogon.
Ancan added that two soldiers were wounded in the clash while one of the seven captured NPA rebels was also injured.
Lt. Col, Ray Tiongson, 10th Infantry Battalion commander, said the wounded rebel was brought to a local hospital for treatment while the other NPA captives were turned to police authorities for filling of appropriate criminal charges.
Troops recovered one M-16 rifle, four .45 caliber pistols, seven fragmentation grenades, components for improvised explosive device and three motorcycles.
